A Vintage Look

Vintage fashion took center stage in 2011 with glamorous editorial spreads on elegant back drops.  Knee length hemlines, and curvy tailored tops graced the runways and pages of magazines.  Maybe it's the Mad Med series obsession that kicked it off, but I can't get enough of it. Even Barbie dedicated a collection to the popular show, Joan Holloway is seen below.

I hope 2012 brings us more of these classic and very stylish looks.
Wishing you all a very stylish start to 2012!

Traditional Mantel

The only thing missing from this fireplace is the fire.  Another beautiful mantel and setting for the holidays, or all winter long. decorated of course by Lisa Luby Ryan.  A beautiful contrast of light and dark, and of course vintage mercury glass ornaments and antique mirrors.

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful week.

The Art of Hanging Art

The owner of this Glasgow townhouse, is none other than an art dealer of historic prints and drawings, as can be seen by the marvelous selection of works that grace his wallsAD reader, Anthony Ferrie, is the owner of this beautifully appointed home.  To note most admirably is the art of hanging art. Here it makes a beautiful impression, especially as it is balanced, symmetrical, and layered.  In addition, the furniture pieces are delectable; traditional statement pieces that hold their ground in this quaint setting.  You can catch more details and a full story at AD.

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday, and are still having a great break.  Without planning, I guiltlessly abandoned my computer, blog, phone, and work for a few days, and I am thankful for it. I ate well, I played Barbie, and  I slept in. You heard correctly; the kids had toys to keep them busy on Monday morning, so I took full advantage.  In just a few days we start the New Year.  I hope you are as excited as I am about the possibilities for 2012.

'Tis the Season

'Tis the Season to be Jolly!

Hope you have a Wonderful Day with Friends, family and kindred Spirits.
Merry Christmas!

Vieux Quebec

One of my favorite places on our beautiful Earth, is right here in Canada, the incredible Quebec City. I can't wait until the kids are old enough to ski. so we can return on another adventure.  While dreaming up our next trip, I stumbled across this beautiful Inn, called Auberge Sainte Antoine, and it is the perfect place to stay, because it is enveloped in Quebec's rich history and culture.  Not to mention, it's just plain fabulous!

If you are ever in the mood for a quick yet memorable jaunt, I can pretty much guarantee, you will have an amazing time in this old and charming city.  Whether you like to browse quaint little shops, or ski down incredible mountains with endless views of sea and sky.  The food is irresistible, the people are hospitable, and around every corner you  are sure to discover another reason to stop and admire.

Now In Print

It's in print! Pure Green Magazine, one of my favorite online reads is now available in beautiful print. I have been scouting their blog for all kinds of sneak peaks of the December issue, and stumbled across this little spread, where the  amazing Brinsons managed to whip up a casual party with vintage touches and tasty treats! I can't wait to get my copy!

If you are looking to get your fill, you can find it here!

Bedside Fire

I told you I had a fabulous line up! Today I am bringing you a little bedside fire.  I love the idea of a wood burning fireplace in the bedroom and this room is certainly picture perfect with it's rich gold tones. That wonderful warm granite trim, and the colours that play off it in the room throughout.  My only requirement is a fireplace door. because I just can't imagine sparks flying onto that beautiful rug, or the draft when the fireplace isn't burning.  Other than that, I am already imagining devouring a great book, or telling the kids great stories, or even a heavenly sleep.

Holiday Farm

If you are in the mood for a little Holiday Inspiration, both Indoor and Out, you must head over to At Home In Arkansas for this amazing feature on Moss Mountain Farm, the residence of Garden Designer P Allen Smith.  I am completely enamored with this 500 acre property, his home and all the holiday trimmings.  With the weather being so mild, it makes me want to visit one of the local farms or ranches and explore country living over the Holidays.

Hope you are having a fabulous Monday!

Holiday Fireplace

I have a small collection of fabulous fireplaces to share with you over the next few weeks.  Here is one that I absolutely adore, for it's traditional detailing and elegant approach. I just love the shape of that brass fireplace screen, and the contrast of light and dark in the appointments throughout.  Holiday decor doesn't conflict with anything either, just simple greenery, with white blooms of the tulip and poinsettia.

Hope you are enjoying the festive season, and keeping cheerful during the Holiday rush!
The malls are a mess, but filled with Holiday excitement!

Snow Fall

Picture perfect, indeed!
You likely won't find me trotting around snow filled hills in these luxury goods, but they do make a great picture. The setting is in Utah, and the clothes are particularly fabulous.  And I, in fact, may truly enjoy a good old fashioned sleigh ride. But you will more than likely see me wearing these warm looks  in a snow covered city.

Despite the mild weather, Christmas won't be the same without that pristine white blanket that covers the ground. Here's to a hearty snowfall on Christmas Day!

Green and Gold Envy

It's not surprise that I am a lover of green, but the combination of green and gold is absolutely irresistible to me. I love it on my body, or in my home.  These are just a few classics I have been adoring of late.  The Mottega lamps, which by the way, are some of my favorites.  The gold cuff from Elsa Perretti's Tiffany collection, and the Siam Vase also from Tiffany.  Tobi Fairley certainly knew what she was doing when she put this room together.

In the Hills

If you missed Architectural Digest's feature on this modern Aspen Ski lodge, here is a little glimpse into some of it's splendor. I must admit that on first glance the most exciting part about this lodge, is the intentional abandonment of typical winter cabin design.  Mid century modern takes front stage, with the addition of plush comforts, for an ever expanding family. A simplified colour scheme of natural wood, white, black and red, and a fine selection of furnishings and artwork, create a vast space for entertaining and lounging.  An ideal settings for the holidays or to tackle the winter blah's!
