Iron Spheres

My recent obsession are these beautiful over sized Iron Sphere Light Fixtures.  Taking inspirations from old armillaries,  these spherical rings are more like artistic sculptures suspended from the ceiling.  They are captivating and dramatic, and a fabulous addition to a Foyers, dining rooms and kitchens..

Classic Style

This fabulous interior is the result of the incredible work of designer Charles Spada, that began 20 years ago when the home was first purchased.  At the time, Spada and his clients put in a great deal of effort in the quality and workmanship of this Connecticut residence, and it shows.   When the couple called on Spada for a refresh, there was little fuss.  Everything held up to the highest standards, so instead of gutting and starting over, this much loved home received  fresh coats of paint, new fabrics and new finishes..

Do i have to tell you how much I love this library?   What a wonderful treat to see this beautiful green library.  It was actually painted during the original renovation, and has remained just as beautiful.  The window coverings were replaced, but it doesn't mention anything else. Evey home should have one room in it that is this exciting.

Although the pictures are not shown, the kitchen was also updated, and a porch (above) was added just off the breakfast area.   You can read the full story in New England Home, as well as see a few more pictures.  I love this quote at the end of the article. "when you choose to do it right, the more the things change, the more they stay the same"  There is much truth in this, classic never goes out of style.

Keeping Cool with Green and Blue

When it comes to keeping cool on hot summer days, I can't help but be drawn to these crisp and cool colour combinations.   It's no secret green is my favorite colour-but when paired with blue,  greens take on a whole new personality.  The two colours that come together most often in nature are lively, and energetic.   I can't help but feel recharged and ready to enjoy my day.

Little House on the lake

Lately, I have been dreaming of a little house by the lake. Nothing too fancy, just a place to escape to on hot summer weekends, or even crisp fall days.   A few small bedrooms to rest our heads in and one big happy open space to relax in when we aren't out by the water.  I don't want a gourmet kitchen, 'cause I don't want to cook.  Everything should be easy and relaxed and clutter free. A great wall of windows to enjoy the view, and plenty of comfortable seating both inside and out.  A wood burning fireplace is a must for those chilly fall evenings, and I love the idea of decorating with found objects.

This wonderful Lake house was designed by Bear Hill Interiors out of Little Rock, Arkansas.  I can't wait to share another one of their remarkable interiors.

The Calm space: Happiness is Wanting What You've Got!

You know that old song from Cheryl Crow, “I’m gonna soak up the sun, I’m gonna tell everyone, To lighten up”? I love that song. It’s a happy song, and every time I hear it reminds me of what really matters. My beautiful family, my friends, my home and the wonderful memories I have made over the years. There is another line in that song that helps me put some things into perspective, especially when I see something in a magazine that I think I need, like a whole new kitchen. The line is, “it’s not having what you want, its wanting what you’ve got”. Isn’t that the truth? I often find myself dreaming of things I want, I forget I have everything I need.    READ MORE

I am over at the Calm Space this week with an article on being Happy with what you'lve got.

Home Portfolio: Living Room

I love scouting furniture for clients.  I think it is probably one of my favorite things to do.  I am working on a design project and I am so excited to present the concept to the client.  They are a young couple, who just moved into a very cool condo in the city.  Desperate for some furniture, they ran out and bought a 4 piece bedroom set, and a new brown leather sofa.  Now they are looking for some help filling in everything else in between.  So, I am on the hunt for some great furniture to fill their space, here is a little look into what i have been working on.

Colour:
They currently have a neutral colour on the wall which they really don't want to paint right now, and an accent wall that is red, that they aren't so fond of.  So we're switching up the red for Plumage by Martha Stewart.

Case Goods:

They are in desperate need of an armoir to hide and raise the television.  Since their TV is quite large, we are custom making a 2 pc unit - similar to the one above.  This image is from pottery barn, we'll get the armoire made locally and hand pick all the finishing details.

There isn't a lot of storage space, so I am hoping we can squeeze in this lovely bookcase, against a small wall  that was offered in between a wall of windows.  This piece above is from Woodcraft.

Coffee table::

There are a few options for coffee tables, this is one of my favorites.  We'll make it square,  with either a stone or  glass top.  The other options are still sketches and include a shelf for additional storage space.  From Anvil of course.
Upholstered:
This is the Clara chair from Crate and Barrel.  It has a wonderful line to it.  It happens to be in this beautiful soft velvet peacock fabric.  I actually am not convinced this is the right fabric for the space, so I am looking into some other options.

Here is another piece that I think would be lovely in the space.  This great tufted bench from Restoration Hardware.   I need a bench to help divide the space, without being too much of an obstruction.  It's also easy to pull up to a dining table for additional seating.

Area Rug:
I am thinking of keeping it clean, simple and soft on the floor.  This is a great silk wool blend area rug from Elte.

Now I can't wait to see it all come together.
