Swedish Antiques

Lovers of antique Swedish Design, sit back and relax. The owner of this weekend escape is an aficionado of these precious Swedish Relics. The home is an American Colonial, but the interiors are filled with Gustavian, Early to mid - 18th century Swedish furnishings and Swedish Artwork. .

Gustavian Console Table and chair, paired beautifully with this wonderful shade of sea foam blue.

Filled with beautiful interesting pieces that range from the 18th and 20th century. It's and antiquers paradise, Gustavian Danish, Victorian, so many wonderful elements.
.

Inspiration for this bedroom was the Queen Hedvig Eleonara of Sweden. Linen drapes and velvet headboard are just beautiful.

This entire home is decorated meticulously in it's incredible theme, it almost seems like an historic landmark, until you walk into the kitchen. This is where you see the inner workings of family life. (the dogs in the hallway help as well) What a wonderful surprise to see modern updates in the kitchen. Stainless steel dining table on casters is brilliant. As this is a weekend home, a small open concept kitchen is suitable. But the absolute creme de la creme is the dining room. Contemporary table, surrounded by antique chairs, Gold gilded clock, old paintings, on stripped flooring and serene walls. A nearby weekend escape that truly feels like a distant vacation.

Blue shutters

.
I often hear designers mention having an element of surprise in their designs. Well this home offers just that. While browsing a gallery of images over at House Beautiful, these beautiful blue shutters caught my eye. It's one of those design risks that could be disastrous, but results in completely rewarding. Designed by Barbara Westbrook and Kim Winkler, this updated rustic home is a mix of Belgian, antique and a modern open concept. Iron, Wood and Linens, combined with captivating distressed blue shutters make this home energizing. A simple wrought iron Canopy bed and iron bench, add to the rustic spa beauty of the bedrom. The dining table measures 7' x 5', and is double duty work surface and dinner table. And in the dining room, a dark smokey gray that feels very refreshing complimented with lovely white linens. And perhaps, what is most interesting is that this incredible home can be found in Atlanta.

Fall Mornings, Fresh Linens

One of life's simple pleasures is waking up on a crisp fall morning, when the house is so cool, you just linger under the covers for an extra hour. Something tells me, "maybe I should turn the heat on", but then snuggling under the fresh sheets and duvet just wont be the same. The silky soft feeling on your skin, the weight of the fabric surrounding you, and the warmth they offer. Cream Linens have always been my preference. Especially when they have just been laundered, I almost convince myself that I could sleep in until noon! But then, I hear the footsteps running towards me and a little voice calling. "Mamma. Mamma. Elmo!" It's 6:30am. Maybe tomorrow they'll sleep in.

Today is the last day to enter the All the Best Bedroom Contest over at Ronda Carman's All the Best Blog. Details here, if you still want a chance to win some Beautiful Sferra Linen's.

Enchante

Just wanted to share with you this collection of images that I found on the website of Interior Stylist, Lucyina Moodie. These images are wonderful and enchanting. Not only are they beautiful, but they are a great tool for me to learn how to create stylized images of my furniture. Especially since it's Wrought Iron and it can easily be cast in an unflattering light. I love how the tables are stacked with dishes and food, drinks and glasses, lemons and florals. Every door and every cabinet is slightly opened. And the pillows, so many beautiful pillows, sitting on chairs. It's as if the seating was made for a pillow and not for a derriere.
.
You can visit Lucyina Moodie's website for more great images. I chose a very soft collection, but her gallery includes a number of modern interiors with bold colours. Worth a visit.

Poise and Perspective

So great to see dark sofas in this family/media room. You know the room gets a lot of wear and tear, when the browns come out! Done beautifully with the big pillows with wide white grids.

What an entrance! Wrought Iron is so classic & elegant

Mill Neck, Long Island is a known site for many old world estate properties owned and enjoyed by some of New York's elite. What's fascinating about this property, is that with all it's grandeur and prestige, it feels like a home in the suburbs. It clearly is not. The architectural detailing is phenomenal, the trim work over the doors, over sized arched windows and doors , detailing on ceilings, Wrought iron staircase and so much more. Interior Designer, Sherrill Canet decided not to compete with these features, and instead chose to simplify on a collection of tailored but livable pieces. And this home feels like just that, lived in. Too often, large estates are decorated so lavishly, it's almost impossible to enjoy them for all the adornments. Not here! Here is where you really get a sense of Poise and Perspective.

All images taken from Sherrll Canet website. it's worth checking out, she has a lovely porfolio!

Even a song playing on your ipod, can inspire a room, or two...

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all yellow
.
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow
.
So then I took my turn
Oh what a thing to've done
And it was all yellow

Gray Days

Gray may be a colour trend this year, but it has always been a colour that stands the test of time. Especially, when it comes to fashion, gray is one of the most versatile colours to own because it can easily be paired with soft and bold colours. The brilliant items above are from the Fall 2009 Viktor & Rolf RTW Collection. OK -so maybe the gray wash faces made to look like statues is a little distracting, but pay no attention to the models. Look at the weight of the fabric, how it drapes the female form. The swags are in all the right places. It's as if each piece was modeled after the statue of a Greek goddess. Instead of marble, stiff wool fabric. A superb collection and with pieces that you will look forward to wearing year after year.
